Expertise

With a completed Teachers Degree in Drawing Karin ended up in the branch of publicities and fashion photography. As a digital retouching artist and entrepeneur she has been one of the pioneers in the field and on the highest level. They involved photographers Inez van Lamsweerde, Marc de Groot and labels such as Tommy Hilfinger and G-Star.

But then it was time for a change: ‘A lingering desire to return to drawing and painting, my first passion, grew ever stronger’.

From her earliest years on, Karin has always drawn and painted, preferably using traditional methods, including the use of oil paint and the techniques of the Old Masters. For this she produces her own tempera. Especially Rembrandt, Titian, Caravaggio and Leonardo da Vinci inspire her.

In the program Master Scientific Illustration at Maastricht all came together

The course is a joint venture between the Academy of Fine Arts and Design at Maastricht Hogeschool Zuyd and the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences of the Maastricht University – Department of Anatomy and Embryology.

The formation provided a unique possibility to combine Karin’s different fields of experience. From Old Masters’ painting techniques to contemporary, high-end digital techniques. The interaction between the different fields further deepens and broadens the illustrative experience and results.

In this new field too, Karin aims for the highest possible. As a medical and scientific illustration professional she continues to deepen and broaden her knowledge. Assisting in OR’s enables her to reproduce the best human and animal anatomical preperations.
